The WinterBox Planter System​

The WinterBox Planter came about when the designer, Brad Presler of Envite Design, thought, "What happens to all the window planters in the winter? What happens to all the color?  Is it restricted to when the mother nature says it's ok for flowers to bloom and plants to be green and fresh?  Or can the color of spring and summer be summoned up in the dead of winter, with a little help from technology?"​

The answer is a definite, Yes!  With the knowledge that greenhouse plants bloom all winter long (if you've ever been to a butterfly house or arboretum, you know what I mean), I set out to make this power of keeping the world a colorful, joyful place an everyday thing for everyone.  Why restrict the color and the beauty of plants to giant greenhouses?  Shouldn't we be able to walk down the street and see flowers that remind us that although everything seems dead and the leaves are gone, there still is life in this world?  That spring is just around the corner and nature's colorful beauty will return?​

Recently I found an article on small "farms" appearing in city tree pits on sidewalks in NYC.  They grow tomatoes, snap peas, fava beans, etc. on the sidewalks.  Now the city claimed that whoever was planting them, although they were creating bountiful, fruitful crops, was breaking the law and tore up the plants simply because they were on private property.  This made me think that if these people had the WinterBox Planter, they could harvest their crops year round, from their window.  No government coming and saying you can't plant there.  And better yet, no dogs using your garden as a bathroom!
